Workshops

As in previous years, the main conference will be preceded by half a day of workshops on the 1st of February. This year we will run two workshops in parallel: one on computational biology, co-organized with the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), and one on transdisciplinary research, co-organized with the Swiss Network for Transdisciplinary Research.

Computational biology workshop
14:10 – 14:30:   Introduction to computational biology and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. Speaker: Patricia Palagi, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
14:30 – 15:15:   Introduction to Genonets, a web server for the construction, analysis, and visualization of genotype networks. Speaker: Joshua Payne, University of Zurich, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
15:15 – 16:00:   Introduction to BEAST2, a cross-platform for Bayesian phylogenetic analysis of molecular sequences. Speaker: Gavryushkina Alexandra, Federal Institute of Technologies Zurich, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
16:00 – 16:30:   coffee break
16:30 – 17:15:   Introduction to OMA, a web-based database interface for orthology prediction. Speaker: Christophe Dessimoz, University of Lausanne, University College London, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
17:15 – 17:45: Discussion

General information

  • Participation to both workshops is free of charge
  • A maximum of 75 participants per workshop can be accepted
  • Registration to the workshop is open until January 30, 2017 but projects for the transdisciplinary research workshop should be submitted by 13 January 2017.
  • The workshops will be followed by an apero at 18:00
  • Participation to the workshop does not necessarily imply participation to the conference (i.e., you can participate only to the one or the other, or to both)
